Ergonomic Assessments

Why have an Ergonomic Assessment?

Workstation Assessments

The cost of time lost at work through poor workstation ergonomics is enormous. Each year back, leg and arm pain cause employees

Lady sitting at a laptop with shoulder painto take time off work, which in turn reduces productivity. Many of these problems are caused by poor configuration of standard office furniture that with a little thought can be rearranged to create a more comfortable and productive environment, reducing the discomfort that workstation users often experience when spending long hours working at their desks. Small changes to the position of office equipment and personal posture can make a significant difference to the health of the muscles and joints. Computer screens may be positioned too low or high, or positioned off to one side. The chair may be too high or badly adjusted. The neck and back are liable to experience unnecessary strain, and muscles and tendons in wrists, arms, and shoulders are likely to receive extra strain that good ergonomic training can help to avoid.

We provide companies with a tailored ergonomic review of an individual’s workstation or office either face to face or via Video call. Evaluations are thorough, looking at existing medical issues, the overall environment, and the equipment used, particularly focusing on the relative positions and adjustability of individual items such as chairs and desks. The ergonomic review initially establishes whether the workstation user is sitting at their desk in a way that might cause or perpetuate existing problems. Recommendations are made to improve the ergonomic use of desk equipment, including the desk itself, chairs, PC screens, keyboards and mouse, and any other equipment that is used day to day.

Each workstation  assessment report is presented in a written report that lists problems identified by our consultant. The report provides recommendations for changes related to work equipment such as chairs, desks, and computer equipment. In the event that other equipment is required such as back rests, foot rests, or different office equipment, this is identified and estimated costs provided, if required.

All assessments are tailored to the specific requirements of the individual.

Industrial Ergonomic Assessments

We are able to provide alternative ergonomic assessments with a trained clinician or Chartered Ergonomist in areas that involve repetitive movements, awkward postures, and manual handling (including pushing and pulling) for example manufacturing lines, warehouses, and deliveries.

Industrial Ergonomics surveys are suitable for any areas where concerns have been raised, or the employee has a pre-existing condition in order to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, repetitive strain injury and improve wellbeing at work.

The clinician will observe and/or discuss demands with the employee and employer to understand the demands, frequency of individual tasks and any environmental factors. Individual ergonomic risk assessments are undertaken as appropriate to the role and employee. A report with findings and recommendations for change is provided and discussed with the employee and employer as required.
